Parents on Facebook

September 30th, 2009

I recently had to deal with Facebook Hatemail as post-breakup backlash.  Adam sent me this video, knowing I could relate..  Gone are the days when a Facebook account required a college e-mail address – now it is overrun with overly-involved parents, shallow gossips and crazy ex-girlfriends stalking the picture page.  Don’t misunderstand – two of my stepmoms and my grandparents are on facebook, but they haven’t overstepped the invisible line of decency.  Take Heed Middle-Aged Facebookers – the Onion is making fun of you.  ”The only excuse for not knowing every detail of your child’s life is having one of your own.”

Pop The Champagne

September 25th, 2009

Our replacements will report to their Mobilization Training today!  It took about a month and half from the time we got to Fort Dix to boots on ground, which included our Christmas break.  They won’t be there as long as we were since there aren’t any holidays approaching which puts a big smile on my face.  I can’t wait to greet them, show them the office and eagerly board my flight home.

WE’RE WAITING ON YOU WITH OPEN ARMS, REPLACEMENTS.  GET HERE FAST!

What You Won't See on CNN

September 16th, 2009

This was forwarded to me by my Aunt Tracy.  I usually hate fwd’d e-mail, but I had to share this one.

This is a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force.  The girl he’s holding became an orphan when her entire family was executed.  They tried to shoot her in the head, but failed to kill her.  She’s healing in John Gebhardt’s hospital and he’s the only one who can calm her down.  His new bed is this rickety chair and his blanket – this baby girl.

Enjoy your 72 virgins, Boys

September 15th, 2009

This is video from Apache gunships with 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Task Force Pegasus in southern Afghanistan.  They watched insurgents plant an improvised explosive device and you can tell these guys want to fire (a kid keeps getting in the way).  They patiently wait, declare this a hostile act but before they can do anything – the bombers kill themselves.  Premature Detonation?  Looks like these terrorists passed the Suicide Bomber Course with flying colors.

Holiday?

September 11th, 2009

Today is September 11.  8 years ago, thousands of people died when terrorists decided to exploit America’s vulnerabilities.  Heroes died rushing into burning buildings, buildings that crumbled on top of them like a stack of cards.  Innocent passengers traveling from point A to B died at the hands of cowards, murderers looking to be martyrs.
