Suicide Prevention

October 18th, 2009

I told you a few weeks ago that I was working on a suicide prevention video.  I finished it at a pretty ironic time, a day after another Soldier killed himself.  Suicide in the military is often swept under the rug and most people don’t know what a serious problem it is; truth be told, it’s a big problem and one that we can’t seem to get right.  Where’s the easy button?  I lost a very good friend over here,  luckily it wasn’t to suicide and he was sent home to get the help he needed.  I’m glad to see that the command didn’t turn their backs on the issue, but did what they thought was best.

I was a little disappointed in this video, because despite the fact that I sent out the script a week in advance, some of the participants weren’t prepared.  I did what I could with what I had.  If it makes one person stop and think, it’s worth it.
